Cataleya Private Limited, a global player in Voice over IP switching and analytics, has been chosen as the solution provider to support the launch of Bangladesh’s mobile number portability (MNP) for its 22 International Gateway service providers (IGW).
Starting on October 1st, 2018, the country’s 150 million mobile subscribers are, for the first time, able to port their number from one mobile operator to another.
With the increased pressure on profit and quality, providing MNP for incoming international traffic as efficiently as possible, operationally and financially, is a priority for the IGWs success.
In addition, looking ahead MNP will enable them to support advanced end-to-end features made possible by more evolved communication services, such as VoLTE and RCS. Cataleya’s MNP query solution is critical in making this happen.
Cataleya, was chosen by the International Gateway Operator Forum (IOF) out of 6 global vendors and succeeded in building, testing and deploying its MNP query solution in a record turn-around time of 2 weeks. It was able to develop a system which seamlessly interworks with each of the 22 IGWs switches, adapting to their specific needs. The solution is capable of handling 10,000 queries per second using SIP protocol, while holding up to 100 million number portability records in an in-memory database for superfast data retrieval.
"We are proud to have been selected by the IOF to deliver this critical and complex solution in such a short timeframe successfully and to the full satisfaction of the group", says Andreas Hipp, CEO Cataleya.
"Amongst all the offered solutions, Cataleya’s fast and comprehensive response stood out and gave us the confidence to select them as the vendor for this solution. Their support and flawless implementation exceeded our expectations and we are very pleased with our choice", says Zulfiqar Islam, CTO IOF.
With this proven number portability query solution, hailed by all of Bangladesh’ IGWs, Cataleya adds another important capability to its Orchid platform. As it can now also act as a central third-party MNP database that can respond to SIP/ENUM number portability lookup requests, thereby obviating the need for existing switches to update their architecture to adapt to the number portability environment.
This is an important milestone for Cataleya, which is emerging as one of the industry’s most trusted real-time communication and number portability query solution providers.
