ZTE’s Policy and Charging Rules Function solution will help BSNL towards better engaging with its customers in terms of offering its data services

India’s biggest service provider, Bharat Sanchar Nagam Limited or BSNL is all set to enhance its data services with the help of a Policy and Charging Rules Function or PCRF solution by Chinese telecom equipment major, ZTE.

“As part of our strategy to overhaul our data services offering, we have finalized on ZTE’s PCRF solution. This will provide us great data handling capabilities. We followed our tender process for this solution and ZTE has emerged as the winner. We are likely to commission this solution by next month and ZTE should be able to complete the installation by August,” informed, Anupam Shrivastava, Director Consumer Mobility, BSNL. He was speaking on the sidelines of UBM’s flagship event, 4G World 2014 in Gurgaon.

At a time when operators look for better engaging with their set of customers, PCRF functionalities provide an ideal platform to create better value propositions for their data offerings. “Our customers look for better value propositions in data and we want to create that impact where we are in a position to offer data specific services to different sets of customers. This PCRF solution will help us achieve this objective,” he added.

Driving better data driven synergies for the operators, the PCRF is the part of the network architecture that aggregates information to and from the network, operational support systems, and other sources (such as portals) in real time, supporting the creation of rules and then automatically making policy decisions for each subscriber active on the network. Such a network might offer multiple services, quality of service (QoS) levels, and charging rules.
