ZTE Corporation, has been working with Jiangsu Telecom to deploy its iCDN (integrated content delivery network) and optimise its video service CDN, designed to be used via the Internet.
Jiangsu Telecom has successfully tested this Internet-based transition, becoming the first operator in the world to commercially deploy an iCDN solution carrying all services. By deploying an iCDN, Jiangsu Telecom has accelerated its Internet services for more than 10 million users. The iCDN allows the operator to improve user experience and rapidly establish differential advantages.
Through cross-domain integration, ZTE proposed its innovative “IPTV (TV based IP Network)+ OTT (over the top) + Cache” iCDN solution which can greatly enhance the operator’s competitiveness and differential advantages after triple-play, and facilitates the development of the entire industry chain.
The ZTE iCDN solution has been successfully trialled for commercial use, supporting service acceleration for the six million existing video users and an additional 10million Internet broadband users. The ZTE iCDN uses its innovative technologies to greatly improve video distribution speeds, such as acceleration of OTTmulticast/unicast, convergent cache, and videos, and effectively reduces an operator’s CAPEX (capital expenditure) and OPEX (operational expenditure). The Jiangsu Telecom iCDN constructed by ZTE is currently the largest IPTV & OTT commercial project in the world.
The ZTE iCDN solution focuses on helping telecom operators improve pipeline capability, create additional network value, and provide new services and better experiences for users. The solution can, together with PCRF (policy and charging rules function) and PCEF (policy control enforcement function) network elements, provide each CP (content provider) with QoS (quality of service) differentiated intelligent pipeline services.
In addition, with the iCDN, operators can provide capability leasing services for contracted CPs, including CDN bandwidth, traffic, concurrency, storage resources, and build intelligent pipelines to realise traffic operation. The iCDN solution supports big data statistical analysis, network and data security assurance, and user, network, and service perception capabilities. It can support refined operation according to market requirements, provide individualised services, ensure user and customer satisfaction, and provide full operation services for operators.
Regarding iCDN development planning, ZTE focuses on the high-performance and large-capacity CDN hardware platform, low bit-rate HD, wholesale leasing, and expanding applications to further industries such as aviation CDN and RAN-CDN.
