dtac, a telecom operator in Thailand has showcased its 4G VoLTE and VoWiFi services for first time in Thailand as part of its participation during NET 2015.
dtac brings latest technology innovations to showcase at NET 2015, held as part of Thailand’s National Communications Day commemoration. The highlight is the evolving dtac 4G VoLTE and VoWiFi technologies, which are to be commercialized for the first time in Thailand by dtac.
The company aims to make Thailand the 16th country in the world to commercially launch VoLTE and the 5th country to launch VoWiFi. The expo is organized with the concept of “Real Benefit of Technology for All Thais” with the aims to disseminate knowledge on advanced digital technology to general public.
dtac showcased how advanced innovations and future digital technologies could improve quality of life. As one of the leaders in the telecommunications industry, dtac is fully committed to support and improve the country’s competitiveness in the region and particularly to prepare the country for the competitive ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
dtac’s exhibition was organized under the concept “The Real Benefit of Technology for All Thais,” which was divided into 2 themes - 1. Technology in Everyday Life and 2. Technology Change Life. The showcase was part of the Internet for All vision that aims to give all Thai people access to the Internet for better quality of life and equal opportunities.
Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology Officer, Total Access Communication PLC. or dtac said that the highlight of dtac’s exhibition at NBTC Expo Thailand 2015 (NET 2015) is the showcase of dtac 4G VoLTE and VoWiFi technologies, marking another turning point for Thailand’s telecommunications industry. dtac will also invite interested people to be part of the VoLTE and VoWiFi testing to ensure service readiness before commercial launch.
Dtac 4G VoLTE and VoWiFi technologies offer high definition voice quality and are new innovations of the 4G era, which will replace traditional 2G/3G networks within the next 3-4 years.
Currently, the 4G network carries data-only traffic with voice calls handed off to 2G/3G networks. The new dtac 4G VoLTE and VoWiFi technologies provide a significant improvement of voice service on 4G.
dtac is the first in Thailand, making the country the 16th in the world, to provide dtac 4G VoLTE or Voice over Long Term Evolution service, which offers high definition (HD) voice quality and 10 times faster call setup time, decreasing from 5 seconds to 0.5 seconds (when both caller and receiver are on VoLTE).
The service also offers HD video call quality at 720p/1080p resolution with much higher quality and more detail than the current network while allowing voice and data connections on dtac’s 4G network. To use the service, customers need to have VoLTE-enabled smartphones with the required firmware version. No application installation is required.
dtac is the first operator in Thailand, making the country the 5th in the world, to launch 4G VoWiFi or Voice over WiFi service. The service provides a revolutionary experience to 4G customers who now can make voice calls over WiFi from anywhere in the world and on any network, extending coverage even to areas with no cellular signal.
VoWiFi allows users to place and receive a call using the same number, while the current technology only allows users to make calls with other users on the same application and restricts users from calling a landline number.
In addition to the dtac 4G VoLTE and VoWiFi showcases under the theme “Technology in Everyday Life,” dtac has selected other digital innovations to exhibit at the event before commercial launch.
•Sleep Apnea Monitor is a medical innovation used to assist patients with Sleep Apnea Syndrome or breathing disorder during sleep. The system is designed to monitor and collect patient information while sleeping at home. The data will be sent over the 4G network to the doctor for analysis and treatment.

These 4G-enabled technologies transform your house into a smart home.
•GPS Tracker on 4G is designed for children and elderly care, particularly for those with memory loss. The GPS Tracker system sends out alerts to your smartphone when a monitored person moves out of a designated area and gives you real-time exact location on the map for immediate action or rescue.
•Drive Bot utilizes 4G technology for car maintenance, making your life easier. Drive Bot, a combination of a mobile application and a device, monitors your car for worry-free driving and to prevent accident or breakdown. It also helps you save money on gas and repair costs by alerting you whenever there is a problem with your car, analyzing your driving style, and reminding you of car maintenance schedule.
