TEOCO, a provider of assurance, analytics and optimization solutions to communications service providers (CSPs), has released version 2.2 of DIMENSION, its end-to-end visualization and capacity planning tool for mobile networks.

DIMENSION enables operators to plan their entire network capacity across each element, from radio access to backhaul and transport core. Network planners can design a more efficient infrastructure by identifying bottlenecks before they happen, and then test scenarios to determine how the network will cope. DIMENSION accurately models the network elements across many different technologies and equipment from multiple vendors. It is a centralized system that can be accessed simultaneously by numerous network planners.

The new release of DIMENSION improves performance in key areas and adds new functionality. Previously, DIMENSION required the user to input traffic growth forecasts in order to determine the future needs of the network. Now, DIMENSION can use historical data to predict future traffic growth, and use these predictions to identify where upgrades will be necessary to cope with this growth.

Additionally, DIMENSION has also added LTE to its UMTS and GSM radio capacity planning capability. The updated version also includes greater flexibility in the data being measured – users can add custom data such as costs or performance management parameters to the data.

By using DIMENSION, operators can plan a network accurately, predict and prevent bottlenecks, use an efficient ‘just-in-time’ approach to network upgrades, and prioritize upgrades based on device launches and planned services.

“Operators need to see not only how their network is coping with the amount of data passing through it – but also to predict with confidence how new technologies and new devices will affect the network, and where investment is needed,” said Shachar Ebel, CTO TEOCO. “The new, upgraded version of DIMENSION allows operators to be smart and shrewd in how they invest in their networks, to properly plan for the future.”
