When the Alpine World Cup starts on February 5 in Åre, Sweden, Telia is there to ensure that all TV and media broadcasters have the required connectivity.

To maximize the experience for skiers, visitors, media and event organizers too, Telia offers free wifi during the whole event. The World Cup runs until February 17 in Åre, and continues with the Biathlon World Championship in Östersund, Sweden, on March 5-17.

Telia is a partner for both Åre2019 and Östersund2019 and sets up its powerful wifi in all competition areas, in the sponsors’ village, the media center, the “Medals Plaza”, at Åre center and in many hotels. The idea is to make it possible for visitors, competitors, journalists and TV broadcasters to share the experience with others around the world.

In Åre, 76 nations take part with over 600 competitors. 120 000 visitors and 1 300 journalists are expected. 700 million viewers will watch on various screens worldwide.

On location in Åre and in Östersund, Telia's personal technicians will help with any technology issues.

“The digital experience is incredibly important today, and for large sporting events it is absolutely critical,” says Malin Svelander, regional ambassador and Telia's World Cup2019 Project Manager. “This event is for visitors, competitors, journalists and TV companies alike to share the experience with others around the world. We have rolled out several miles of fiber cable and also reinforce our existing network and build a special event network.”
