Galaxy J2 Core is Samsung’s first Android Go smartphone and is a great option for entry-level segment today. The Galaxy J2 Core is aptly priced at INR 6,190 and carries huge brand and quality assurance of being a Samsung offering.

The device is already available across Samsung’s well entrenched telecom channel ecosystem – involving brick-and-mortar stores as well as e-tailers, Flipkart, Amazon India and Samsung India Shop.

Superb Design

It feels great to hold J2 Core. The chassis is made up of plastic but it comes with a unique shimmer that is giving this device a different and stylish look altogether. J2 Core is sturdy to hold and feels quite a stylish companion. Samsung has done a good job with the design of the J2 Core.

During the course of our review, we extensively used the device to take pictures, play videos, games, use maps etc and we did not find any lag in the performance.

This device comes with a removable rear panel. The rear panel of the phone is removable for placing in a 2,600mAh battery, dual SIM cards and a microSD card. The back also houses a cleverly crafted camera module that is positively adding to the overall design aspect of the device.

Great Display

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core comes with a 5-inch LCD panel which has a quad-HD (960x540 pixels) resolution and comes with a pixel density of 220 ppi.

J2 Core comes packed with YouTube Go application which is optimized for Android Go devices and hence, consuming content on the J2 Core is a wonderful experience.

Considering the fact that this is an entry level device, this is a great display built perfectly well for normal usage.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core comes packed with an 8-megapixel camera on the back equipped with a LED flash along with a 5-megapixel selfie camera on the front side. Both the cameras offer a f/2.2 aperture and deliver great results in good lighting conditions.

Battery

This device is powered by 2,600mAh battery which was easily able to last for a day on a single charge, that is when we used it moderately.

Performance

J2 Core is powered by Exynos 7570, Samsung's homegrown chipset which is supported by a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU. The device comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The storage can be extended further by using a microSD card up to 256GB.

J2 Core supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2 and comes with an accelerometer, a proximity sensor and location services support.

As this is the first Android Go offering by Samsung, J2 Core runs on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) and the device comes with a highly optimized version of Samsung Experience UX which has done a great job towards optimizing Android Go on this device.

This is a budget phone and yet, we have used it to the full. We did not experience any performance issue. We were also able to perform multi-tasking capabilities and run various apps without any performance lag. J2 Core completely justifies its cost, actually it delivers more than what an average user would expect from this device.

Final Verdict

With the J2 Core, Samsung has delivered a wonderful product for the mass market. This device is directed towards first time smartphone users and the pricing is quite good when compared with the functionality set that the device is offering.

J2 Core offers a refreshing design and an equally crisp performance and hence, in our opinion J2 Core is a great option for first-time smartphone buyers today.
