With an aim to deliver next generation ready service offerings for its customers - MegaFon, a telecom operator in Russia has recently launched its LTE-Advanced network on the territory of the Sochi resort.
Two years ago, Sochi became the first city in Russia where the power of this communication standard was shown during the Winter Olympics Games. Sochi became the twelfth city of the country where MegaFon customers can take advantages of the new generation of mobile broadband networks with speeds up to 150 Mbit/s.
Benefits of LTE-Advanced network are now available for Sochi residents as well as numerous guests of the resort. Due to the efficient network organization customers will get the mobile Internet access with speed twice higher than in 4G networks that allows them to download movies with file size more than 1 GB just in a few minutes. LTE-Advanced network is deployed in the center of Sochi, where the main residential areas and social infrastructure are concentrated.
“Today we are launching a new network into commercial operation because we see high potential for the development of this technology in our region. Sochi is not just a favorite resort for many people, but also a platform for cultural and sporting events that take place here all year round. The new network will allow our customers to share their experiences from a holiday with friends and families more quickly”, said Anatoly Gorbunov, the director of the Sochi branch of Caucasian subsidiary of MegaFon.
Sochi became the 12th city in the country where customers get access to the new standard mobile network. Previously, LTE-Advanced network was launched in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Ufa, Chelyabinsk, Tula, Chita, Khabarovsk and Omsk. Now popular gadgets with LTE-Advanced support, including HTC One A9 / M9, LG G4, Moto G Force, Sony Xperia Z3 +, Z5 and Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, are available in MegaFon brand stores and online shop.
According to the World Association of Mobile Equipment Manufacturers (GSA), today there are 116 operators in 57 countries of the world, who have commercially launched LTE-Advanced network.
