Rostelecom, Tele2 and Ericsson Demo 5G for COVID Monitoring

Rostelecom, Tele2 and Ericsson have deployed a pilot 5G network at the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia (CIPR) conference to help monitor the health of visitors.

Deployed on Tele2’s network in September 2020, the pilot 5G service enabled remote health monitoring of CIPR-2020 visitors including temperature checks, use of personal protective equipment (e.g. masks), and extent of social distancing.

Thermal imaging and mobile video terminals were installed and connected by commercially available products and solutions from the Ericsson Radio System and Ericsson Cloud Core portfolio.

The solution for the CIPR event measured visitor’s temperature over 200,000 times during the first two days of the conference.

The pilot 5G network at CIPR-2020 is an important step towards creating the conditions for advanced 5G services in Russia. 5G is expected to become the basis for the development of the country's future digital economy and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ericsson has extensive experience deploying 5G technology to strengthen healthcare. When the COVID-19 began its spread in early 2020, Ericsson teams in China maintained critical communications infrastructure to deliver health services to affected communities.

Ericsson is the world leader in 5G technology. The company has signed 109 agreements and contracts for the deployment of 5G networks with various operators, 61 commercial 5G networks are currently operating on Ericsson equipment on five continents.
