Philips re-enters Indian mobile segment, launches four models

Global electronics major Philips has re-entered the Indian mobile space and has announced four different handsets to mark its re-entry.

The company has announced its new range of smartphones, W6610, W3500, S308 and also a feature phone E130 targeting at the business professionals, technology enthusiasts and durability segment. in order to push its product range, the company has also appointed its national distributor in the form of Redington India. The products are priced between INR 1,960 to INR 35,000.

Speaking on the launch of these mobile phones, SS Bassi, Country Manager, SAARC Sangfei, said, "We are glad to enter the Indian market with these latest mobiles from Philips. These are rightly designed to suit the specific Indian consumer requirements. With the launch of these mobiles, we aim to offer best-in-class mobile experience at an affordable price point," he explained.

Talking about the distribution strategy for pushing Philips mobiles, Ramesh Natarajan, Head National Sales, Redington India said that there is a huge opportunity in the smartphone space. "We are very optimistic about Philips as this is a household name, it has a big brand value and it is going to create a unique space in the Indian smartphone market. As a national distributor, we will be reaching out to the telecom channels space and very soon also partner with organized retail as well," he added.

It may be recalled that Philips used to be in the Indian mobile space and operated only in the feature phone segment. Driven by its smartphone strategy, this is the company's re-entry into the Indian mobile space. It is important to note that China Electronics Corporation or CEC owns the exclusive  license to market and sell mobile phones under the 'Philips' and 'Xenium' brands.
