What can be termed as a green signal towards embracing the next generation in mobile communications technology, according to a news report by ‘The Frontier Post’, Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) Chairman, Ismail Shah has informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan that 3G and 4G licenses for the country will be auctioned by April 23, 2014.

As per the report, a three member bench headed by Justice Jawaad Khawaja heard the 3G and 4G auction case on Thursday. During proceedings Justice Khawaja inquired about the auction in which only licensed companies would take part.

The PTA chairman told the apex court that the auction would take place by April 23 and it was expected to generate Rs 1.3 trillion. The hearing of the case has been adjourned till April 16.

It is important to note that in earlier hearings, Supreme Court has issued notices to secretaries of cabinet and finance to update court on the alleged delay in awarding 3G license in Pakistan.

Supreme Court has also shown disappointment over the progress of 3G auction in Pakistan and has observed that 3G licensing will bring huge investment in the country and no delay will be allowed in this regard.
