Ooredoo Myanmar has released its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 2021 Report, which describes the progress and comprehensive efforts they have made to not only enrich people's digital lives, but also to improve the daily lives of Myanmar people through COVID-19 emergency response in the health sector, community engagement, digital development in the education sector, and women empowerment.

Despite a difficult year defined by the pandemic and other challenges, Ooredoo Myanmar remained committed to its initiatives through its major CSR programs in the emphasis areas of Health,Education, and utilizing Technology as enabler.

During the first incidence of COVID-19 in Myanmar, Ooredoo Myanmar provided support for the prevention, management, and treatment of COVID-19 disease. In honor of Ooredoo Myanmar's 7th anniversary, Ooredoo Myanmar donated oxygen concentrators and oxygen cylinders, which are critical for treatment and saving the lives of COVID-19 affected patients. When Myanmar faced a fatal third wave of coronavirus, Ooredoo Myanmar donated 278,084,500 Kyats worth of 85 oxygen concentrators and 182 oxygen cylinders through respected humanitarian groups around the country. Employees of Ooredoo Myanmar additionally raised over 24 Million Kyats from their own salaries for the donation of137 Oxygen Cylinders to help patients in need to obtain the oxygen they require. To raise pandemic awareness, Ooredoo Myanmar has also sent out COVID-19 educational awareness messages every week during the pandemic period.

Starting from March 2021, the company launched the "Donate & Recharge program” with the aim to facilitate customers in need of emergency balance and to provide a mobile platform for customers to help each other. By December 2021, the program has benefitted 2.1 million people with the total top-up contributions of over 1.1 billion kyats, in which Ooredoo Myanmar contributed over 1 billion kyats and customers and employees of Ooredoo Myanmar donated over 48 million Kyats. Moreover, customers can enjoy Ooredoo to Ooredoo free calls and free SMS during the nights of Internet disruption, through which Ooredoo contributed total free on-net calls 118,826,548 minutes and total free on-net SMS 91,984,550, worth a Grand Total of 4,246,988,820 Kyats.

To support the education development as well as to develop the digital skillsets of underprivileged local communities, in December 2021, over 4,100 digital devices (tablets, smartphones, routers and monthly data plan loaded SIM cards)worth up to 1.4 billion Kyats were donated to 37 monastic education schools, public library networks and social organizations. With Ooredoo Myanmar’s contribution, local people in these communities can utilize these devices, routers and connectivity to boost their educational digital skills which they can gain knowledge and expand their horizons.

In collaboration with UNDP, the Sustainable Enterprises and Agricultural Development (SEAD) Project was implemented with the aim to establish an inclusive and sustainable rural development model in Myanmar’s Dry Zone leveraging Ooredoo’s advanced mobile technology and UNDP’s experience in promoting climate resilient farming practices in the Dry Zone region of Myanmar. SEAD project enhanced the wellbeing of the farmers by empowering the sustainable climate-resilient farming practices through digital platforms as well as demonstrations and on-ground trainings. 39,391 households from 130 villages in Myingyan and Nyaung U townships from Myanmar’s Dry Zone Region were benefitted through this initiative.

Ooredoo Myanmar has also been supporting the Tech Age Girls (TAG) program since 2016 by providing connectivity and devices. Ooredoo became the main sponsor of TAG program in 2019 and it has even increased its support for TAG 2020-21by doubling the number of selected participants, so that over 200 young women were allowed to participate to develop their leadership and digital skillsets. TAG is a year-long program equipping young women, aged 16-20, with technology skills as a tool for leadership and community development.
