NOS is strengthening its leadership in providing cloud services by announcing a unique solution in the Portuguese market: support for AWS Outposts, with high data processing capacity, hosted in Portugal.
In cooperation with Amazon Web Services (AWS), NOS will start delivering a pioneer service in Iberia by providing AWS Outposts from a data center based in Portugal, accelerating IT modernization and enabling bespoke cloud adoption scenarios for Portuguese companies so they can benefit from the flexibility, cost reduction, pace of innovation, scalability, and security of AWS.
AWS Outposts is a fully managed service that extends AWS infrastructure, AWS services, APIs, and tools to any data center, co-location space, or on-premises facility for a truly consistent hybrid
experience.
So, companies in Portugal who have workloads that require low latency access to on-premises systems, local data processing, or local data storage can benefit from AWS Outposts. These
include applications that may need to generate near real-time responses, communicate with other on-premises systems, or control on-site equipment.
AWS Outposts can also be used to securely store and process customer data in Portugal, which is important for organizations in highly regulated industries that require ownership and controls for the safe handling and storage of data.
In fact, this service is particularly relevant for companies in the following sectors:
• Healthcare: improvement of patient diagnosis with quick access to medical information;
• Banks and insurance: meet regulatory, contractual or policy restrictions for data locally;
• Industrial automation: manufacturing process automation, sensors and robotics;
• Content production, distribution: lossless signal ingestion, live event, produce faster.
According to Manuel Ramalho Eanes, Board Director of NOS, “This relationship reflects NOS’ commitment to offer the most innovative and advanced services to the Portuguese business community. No one has any doubt that cloud computing is one of the main drivers of the digital transformation of companies. This is the start of a range of initiatives with AWS that will allow NOS to develop and consolidate its positioning as a benchmark supplier of Cloud and Edge Computing solutions to the B2B market”.
The support services are provided by AWS and NOS, enabling companies to save time, reduce costs and minimize risks. To support AWS Outposts in Portugal, NOS had to meet a number of
criteria relating to security, capacity, and innovation.
The latest generation NOS data centers were certified by AWS and its technical staff received specialist training to be able to manage AWS Outposts, integrating it with the portfolio of cloud solutions already available from NOS.
Miguel Álava, Managing Director, Iberia, Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, said, "We are excited to be working with organizations, from small businesses to large companies, and AWS Partners in Portugal to help them grow and drive economic productivity for the nation. NOS is a great AWS Partner to help our local customers develop offerings that enhance customer experiences, improve business performance and accelerate their digital transformation, while
leaving the responsibility of managing the infrastructure to us.”
