In its bid to expand its market share and embracing the now quintessential Android OS ,Nokia India has finally its first Android-based smartphone Nokia X priced at ₹8,599 to get a larger pie of the affordable smartphone segment.
This move is set to provide a better footing to the company in the growing Android segment and is also marking a shift of strategy by Nokia to give end consumers more options in addition to the existing Windows platform. The four-inch dual SIM smartphone has 512MB RAM, 3MP camera and up to 32GB expandable memory.
Moving forward, Nokia is also set to launch other two handsets from the X series – X+ and XL – in the next 60 days priced between around ₹10,000 and ₹12,000. These devices will be positioned in between the low-end Asha series and the high-end Lumia series.
Apart from the Nokia services such as the ‘Here maps’ and Nokia MixRadio, the Nokia X also comes with 7GB free cloud storage using OneDrive and additional 3GB if consumers go for camera back up, Bing and Skype.
All the devices of X series will also have pre-loaded third-party apps and games such as BBM, Twitter, Facebook and Plants Vs Zombies.
It is important to note that, until now, Nokia did not had any presence in the Android segment and this launch is changing the game for Nokia as far as entry into the world of Android is concerned. Moving forward, this could threaten Indian phone brands in terms of offering exactly what the customers want and how they want.
