Network Upgrade: Telenor India Pilots 4G in Anand

As part of its network modernisation plan, Telenor India has launched a pilot to deliver high speed 4G services for its customers in Anand.

Subscribers will now experience high speed wireless mobile internet on the company’s advance network architecture and get on to the digital superhighway to cater to their data needs.

The pilot in Anand follows the successful test pilot of Telenor’s 4G services across its 6 circles in Varanasi, Vizag, Amravati, Agra, Lucknow, Ranchi, Vijayawada, Tenali, Eluru, and Bhimavaram.

With this Telenor has moved a step closer to its ambition of Internet for All and becoming the preferred partner in the digital life of its customers. Customers can avail 4G services with Telenor in Anand city with 2 STVs - STV 159 offering 1 GB 4G data and 25 paisa local and STD calling; and STV 229 offering 2 GB 4G data and 25 paisa local and STD calling.

Speaking on the occasion, Rituraj Kalita, Circle Business Head – Gujarat, Telenor (India) Communications said, “The demand for high speed internet services is growing rapidly and the penetration of 4G-enabled handsets is increasing. In addition to this, the network is energy efficient and much more reliable, this makes Telenor network one of the best in the city both on voice and data services. Telenor announced the modernisation of its entire network in 2015 which should be completed by 2017. Over 10,000 of the total network sites have already been modernised as of now. In Gujarat of the 3850 sites, 1600 have already been modernised with new equipments. To make its network future ready, Telenor has deployed Lean GSM solutions that improves the network capacity and coverage by nearly 25% using the same spectrum resources and provides superior voice and data experience.

At the sites that have been migrated to the new technology, Telenor has reduced congestion and increased data throughput resulting in an improved network experience for its customers. In addition, the new equipment is environment friendly as it consumes up to 30% less power. This is one of the biggest network modernisation deal made by Telenor Group across its business units.
