MediaTek has announced that its Helio P35 chipset will drive the next generation of highly capable and affordable smartphones in India with advanced dual-camera features, light AI enhancements and rich connectivity.
The Helio P35 enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to provide consumers with the features they expect, in addition to light AI enhancements including face ID (face unlock) and single-cam/dual-cam bokeh, at an affordable price point. Devices powered by the Helio P35 include the new feature-rich Oppo A5s.
MediaTek’s Helio P35 is built on the advanced TSMC 12nm FinFET production process, providing the performance needed to support incredible camera features and AI capabilities, while also prolonging battery life. With the Helio P35’s support for Full HD+ resolution displays and a 20:9 ratio, device makers can bring to market beautiful, all-screen smartphones.
The Helio P35 supports dual camera configurations of up to 13+13MP, backed by a hardware depth engine that enables professional-grade depth of field (bokeh) effects, so users can capture stunning photos. For design flexibility, the chipset also supports a single camera mode of up to 25MP with simulated bokeh effects. With MediaTek’s Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) technology paired with a rolling shutter compensation (RSC) model, the Helio P35 is designed to mitigate warped (“jello effect”) video when capturing fast action content or panning.
The Helio P35 also boasts incredible low-light performance, multi-frame noise reduction and clear image zoom technology. The Helio P35’s Imagiq capture suite includes enhancements that automatically minimize aliasing and grain for more crisp photos, in addition to providing defect/distortion correction techniques. The chipset’s 3A hardware engine includes MediaTek’s instant auto exposure (AE) technology, powered by a hardware camera control unit (CCU), which enables smartphones to automatically adjust the exposure when lighting conditions change suddenly.
Anku Jain, Managing Director of MediaTek India, said: “Consumers in India want smartphones that capture great photos, take advantage of the latest AI capabilities and deliver robust connectivity, without breaking the bank. The powerful and power-efficient Helio P35 continues MediaTek’s mission to make great technology accessible, enabling device makers to bring to market ‘New Premium’ devices that reshape expectations of what an affordable smartphone can deliver.”
The Helio P35 is packed with light AI enhancements including face ID (face unlock), smart photo album and single-cam/dual-cam bokeh for a superior experience. The chipset integrates a powerful octa-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU operating at up to 2.3GHz, an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU running at up to 680MHz and a flexible LPDDR3/LPDDR4x memory controller. With MediaTek’s NeuroPilot support, developers and device can leverage a robust ecosystem with support for many common AI frameworks. NeuroPilot is also fully compliant with the Android Neural Networks API (Android NNAPI).
MediaTek’s 4G LTE WorldMode modem provides smartphones with dual 4G SIM support, enabling users to enjoy VoLTE/ViLTE on both connections. The Helio P35 integrates a highly power-efficient design capable of up to Cat-7 speeds, and features MediaTek’s TAS 2.0 smart antenna technology to provide optimal signal quality at the lowest power usage. For the North American market, the 600MHz (band 71) is also supported.
With a dedicated sub-processor in the GNSS engine (which includes GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo), Helio P35 provides a 57 percent improvement in hot TTFF, a 10 percent accuracy improvement and up to 24 percent lower power operation compared to the previous generation chipset. The chipset also supports Bluetooth 5 for 2X speeds, 4X range and 8X broadcast capacity over the previous generation, along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) simultaneous co-existence for a significant throughput boost.
