Maxis and Huawei Technologies Malaysia (Huawei) are gearing up for the next frontier in 5G innovation and development by collaborating on a 5G TechCity in Malaysia.
On 8th January, Maxis and Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Huawei’s Headquarters in Shenzhen to explore and collaborate on a TechCity Program in Kuala Lumpur.
Through the collaboration, both companies will work together to deliver 4G and 5G capacity solutions for an unmatched personalized experience, innovation in 5G network design, deployment and operating efficiencies, as well as the setup of a 5G Innovation Lab to develop and bring new 5G use cases for various industries to commercialization when the new 5G spectrum is made available.
TechCity is an initiative dedicated to building an excellent 5G target network, the incubation of new services with new business models and to provide the best user experience in building an intelligent, connected world.
This program will include joint branding and the innovation of successful use cases nationwide. With this collaboration, Maxis joins global leading operators in having closer R&D collaboration and privileged access to the latest development of 5G use cases. Huawei had already launched the TechCity Program in leading cities such as London, Seoul and Tokyo.
Huawei's Rotating Chairman Guo Ping said, “By working on the TechCity initiative together, we will be able to successfully create 5G solutions based on local demand and replicate them into global markets in the future. Huawei will support Malaysia in transforming from a technology adopter to a leader in 5G innovation and ecosystem development.”
“With this TechCity collaboration, Maxis and Huawei are taking innovation to the next level by exploring new technologies to provide exceptional user experience and better network efficiency. Maxis has always been at the forefront of new technologies and we are excited about our involvement in this program, which we believe will unleash many opportunities that will benefit customers in the future,” said Gokhan Ogut, Maxis’ Chief Executive Officer.
With the emergence of new digital services, applications, and industries, increasing demands are being put towards building the mobile network, as it brings more connected users, higher customer experience and richer application services. This will require innovative solutions to cater for the traffic growth. In October 2019, Maxis and Huawei also signed an agreement on the provisioning of a 5G Network to deliver the best 5G innovation for Malaysia.
The TechCity collaboration aims to shape the ecosystem of future digital services in Malaysia. The 4G and 5G networks will be a key driver in driving the digital economy and embracing Industry 4.0. With the setup of the Innovation Lab, Maxis and Huawei will bring about the development of platforms and applications to support relevant and localized 5G use cases that will benefit consumers and enterprises in Malaysia.
