India’s Spectrum Auction Ends with Government Raising INR 65,789 Crore

The government is able to sell - 964.8 MHz of spectrum airwaves, while a total 2,354 MHz spectrum was put up for auctioning.

Five days of India’s Telecom Spectrum auctioning process ended on Thursday with government getting bids worth INR 65,789 crore. With the help of this auction, Telecom operators such as Airtel, Vodafone, Idea etc have strengthened their 3G and 4G offering in a number of circles.

On the other hand, there were no takers for the expensive 700 Mhz and 900 Mhz bands during the course of the last five days of spectrum auction.

When it comes to this spectrum process - bidding took place only in few circles and bands around 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz were quite closely contested – both these are 4G bands and can be used by operators to provide next generation ready - 4G services.
