Mark Fields, President and CEO of Ford Motor Company, has unveiled Ford’s vision of the ‘City of Tomorrow’ where accidents, congestion and emission are not a concern, and everyone has universal access to mobility.

Given the increasing stress due to road fatalities and congestion, road safety issues have been a serious concern in Indore. To help local authorities and residents find new ways to improve road safety, Ford, in partnership with Devpost is inviting software developers to build apps that will allow pedestrians, bicyclists and motor vehicle drivers share the road safely and equitably.

The initiative Hack and Roll Indore will see individuals and teams create a tech solution that helps the residents of Indore abide by traffic safety rules, respect the rights of their fellow travelers, and enjoy a safe commute every day.

Ford believes every city is unique, with different mobility needs and transportation challenges. Instead of offering a single set of solutions to all cities, Ford will work with each city directly to identify the needs of its citizens and tailor transportation solutions for them.

Speaking on the initiative, Maha Mahadevan, Director Smart Mobility at Ford India said: “As part of efforts to curb transportation challenges in Indore, we are glad to partner with Devpost to make the city roads safer. Our ultimate goal is to use technology to reduce accidents, and provide sustainable mobility solutions for Indore, thereby playing a critical role to the city’s future development.”

As part of its Smart Mobility Plan, Ford has been focusing on developing innovative and sustainable solutions for future mobility. Earlier last year Ford partnered with World Business Council for Sustainable Development and led Sustainable Mobility Project (SMP2.0), as they delivered the report on sustainable mobility solutions for the City of Indore. Ford was the also the leading contributor and helped develop SMP 1.0, the first iteration of the project.

To make mobility easier than ever before, Ford Motor Co, through its subsidiary Ford Smart Mobility LLC, has invested in Zoomcar, India’s leader car sharing company. The investment allows Ford to work together with Zoomcar to make people’s life better by providing new transportation options in India.
