Global telecoms equipment provider Ericsson has launched its Router 6000 series to enable the evolution to LTE Advanced, 5G and M2M.
It also meets the need for high-performance backhaul and precise synchronization required today and in the future. The Router 6000 series addresses the end-to-end network security concerns and demand for higher operational efficiency. The advanced radio integrated transport, along with Service Provider SDN (Software Defined Network) functionality and Ericsson Network Manager, enables application aware traffic engineering with plug-and-play installation.
The new router series is a key element in Ericsson's next-generation portfolio, a comprehensive suite of platforms running one network operating system (IPOS), spanning from cell-site routers to edge, mobile core and data centers. When deployed together with the new Ericsson Virtual Router, the enhanced portfolio enables flexible introduction of distributed cloud applications. Service providers can now optimize transport and compute resources for superior end user experience.
David Krozier, a Principal Analyst in Ovum's Intelligent Networks practice says: "Ericsson has introduced a very forward-looking architecture for the integration of radio and IP transport systems. We believe that such tight-coupling between Ericsson's Radio System and its new Router 6000 products is a first in the mobile industry, and offers the potential for significant improvements in network performance and operational efficiency."
Anders Lindblad, Senior Vice President, Head of Business Unit Cloud and IP at Ericsson says: "The Ericsson Router 6000 series is a game changer since it responds directly to operators' challenges of dramatic increase in the number of connected devices, and the video explosion driving the demand for traffic scale and higher quality of experience.
The combination of the new Ericsson Radio System, integrated backhaul, leadership in mobile core and our global footprint of service professionals makes Ericsson best positioned to lead operators' network transformation in the Networked Society."
The Router 6000 series is fully integrated into the new Ericsson Radio System that supports a multi-standard, multi-band, multi-layer architecture. This combination provides an ideal platform for operators to support their business today and into the future.
The Ericsson Router 6000 series consists of the Router 6672 for access, the Router 6675 for pre-aggregation and the Router 6274 for metro aggregation. The Ericsson Router 6000 series addresses the exponentially growing need for more capacity and higher density of 10GE/100GE interfaces in a compact form factor. The Ericsson Router 6000 series introduces the industry's first access router with 100GE interfaces in a single Rack Unit (RU).
Cutting edge technology like Segment Routing in the Ericsson Router 6000 series provides an evolutionary migration from IP/MPLS to SDN, offering user-defined policy routing, faster roll out of revenue generating services and optimal usage of network resources.
