Ericsson has added Spain to its European 5G footprint through the enablement of commercial 5G for Vodafone in Spain in the cities of La Coruña and Vigo, in the Galicia region, and Gijón, in the Asturias region.
Launched on June 15, and operating on the 3.7 GHz band, 5G services in the cities utilize products and services from Ericsson Radio System, including AIR 6488.
Ismael Asenjo, CTO, Vodafone Spain, says: “We are truly excited to be the first operator to bring 5G to Spain. The limitless potential of 5G will truly be opened up thanks to our networks all around Europe, powered by our partner Ericsson. Our joint 5G blueprint lays out huge opportunity for investment, growth and many benefits to the environment and infrastructure across Europe.”
Arun Bansal, President and Head of Europe & Latin America, Ericsson, says: “We continue to drive 5G in Europe alongside partners like Vodafone in Spain. We will continue to work closely with Vodafone to enable 5G Roaming across the UK, Spain, Germany and Italy in the coming weeks.”
Ericsson and Vodafone recently demonstrated a 5G roaming connection between gamers in Portugal and Spain in May.
