Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport networking solutions, today announced that the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan has deployed a new national backbone network with best-in-class coherent DWDM, MPLS-TP, and service management technologies from Coriant.

The network modernization initiative enables the Ministry of Communications to cost-effectively scale transport capacity and expand transit connectivity to neighboring countries, while introducing a new level of edge-to-core provisioning flexibility to enhance bandwidth services for government, enterprise, mobile, and residential end-user customers.

Based on the Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform and the Coriant® 7090 Packet Transport Platform, the Ministry of Communications' new packet optical transport backbone network connects all the major cities of Turkmenistan, with cross-border transit provided via terrestrial LH/ULH and subsea transmission links. With industry-leading flexi-rate and super-channel capabilities, the hiT 7300 provides a seamless and cost-efficient path to higher transmission rates as end-user bandwidth demands change over time. Widely deployed in other backbone networks in the region, the hiT 7300 also ensures simplified interworking in international transit applications. At the network edge, the MPLS-TP-enabled 7090 offers reliable packet transport for a broad mix of local and transit traffic while delivering service efficiencies and flexibility through a range of multi-rate interfaces and Ethernet transport options (e.g., MEF-certified E-LINE, E-LAN). End-to-end service management in the integrated Layer 0-2 transport network will be supported by the Coriant® Transport Network Management System (TNMS). In addition to simplifying multi-layer service provisioning and reducing operating expenses, TNMS will enable the efficient management of legacy traffic, including SDH and low-speed data.

"Our new state-of-the-art backbone network will play a critical role in meeting the current and future communications needs of all of our citizens, while creating a strong foundation for economic development and regional cooperation," said a representative of the Ministry of Communications. "We chose Coriant as a partner for this project because of their demonstrated technical leadership and highly competitive solution offering."

The new network deployment supports growing demand for backbone capacity driven by high-bandwidth end-user services and applications, including LTE, mobile backhaul, e-government, Data Center Interconnect (DCI), and residential Internet access. The Coriant solution included a full suite of world-class engineering, installation, testing, project management, commissioning, and maintenance services designed to meet the customer's network modernization objectives and time frames.

"We are pleased to partner with the Ministry of Communications as they take important steps to bring transformational value to communications throughout Turkmenistan," said Tarcisio Ribeiro, Executive Vice President, Global Sales & Services, Coriant. "With best-in-class technology innovation and service excellence from Coriant, the Ministry now boasts one of the most advanced broadband infrastructure networks in Central Asia."

The hiT 7300, which will support transmission links of up to 1,930 kilometers in the Ministry's new backbone network, is an industry-leading coherent optical communications system that provides secure, reliable, and low latency transmission of 100G+ per channel. The hiT 7300 achieves a total system capacity of up to 9.6 Tbps per fiber pair via 96 x 100G channels, and is designed to support up to 25.6 Tbps when using advanced flexi-rate, flexi-grid, and super-channel capabilities powered by Coriant CloudWave™ Optics. The Coriant 7090 portfolio of products offers network operators proven technology solutions optimized for packet-centric transport, including MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet (CE). With a broad set of scalable product and configuration options, the 7090 series helps network operators create tailored solutions based on the unique service requirements of their end-user customers.
