CBNL the global enabler in millimetre wave Fixed Wireless Access solutions has expanded its portfolio with two exciting launches designed specifically to address the emerging fixed wireless residential access and smart city markets.

The company has launched a dual-band 60GHz and 5GHz VectaStar Edge residential access platform as well as a small form factor, integrated antenna variant of its VectaStar solution.

The new ‘VectaStar Edge’ residential access solution leverages the high capacity and economic price point of 60GHz solutions but adds a secondary 5GHz radio solution for network operators keen to maintain exceptionally high service levels and availability all the way to the home. VectaStar Edge is a natural complement to CBNL’s existing 10-39GHz portfolio and enables operators to target the price sensitive residential market.

CBNL is also announcing the launch of VectaStar 600 Flex. With the same carrier-class capacity, throughput and performance characteristics as the existing VectaStar family, VectaStar 600 Flex is just 216 × 216 × 68mm in size and weighs just 3.5kg.

With horn, parabolic and integrated antenna options available and a range of mounts, the new product consolidates all the features of CBNL’s existing portfolio into one common, highly versatile platform. The new smaller form factor and integrated antenna option reduce the footprint and visual impact of the product making it ideal for supporting smart city deployments, fixed wireless security and surveillance solutions and campus-wide connectivity such as for hospitals, universities and schools.

Deployed by over 100 communications providers in over 50 countries including 9 of the top 15 global mobile operators the VectaStar point-to-multipoint platform has proven itself as a powerful, high-capacity solution providing carrier grade connectivity for enterprise access services, residential broadband, mobile backhaul and smart city deployments.

Both products are fully backward compatible with CBNL’s market leading products VectaStar 600 and VectaStar ODU-S, thereby providing a seamless and scalable upgrade path for operators with live deployments already in the field. They both work in conjunction with CBNL’s VectaStar Network management solution from where the entire network can be configured, monitored and controlled.

Lionel Chmilewsky, CEO, CBNL said “VectaStar Edge and VectaStar 600 Flex will continue to provide our customers with improved flexibility, scalability and total cost of ownership savings compared to other wireless technologies. Market-led research and development focused on end user needs has led to today’s two announcements. CBNL’s customers will benefit from a purpose-built residential access product and smart city variant which will sit alongside the existing portfolio.

Since its inception in the year 2000, CBNL has revolutionised the use of microwave and millimetre wave spectrum to deliver high-speed, point-to-multipoint networks in the wide area. The company’s proprietary and ground-breaking technologies made it possible to move beyond simple point-to-point links in the high frequency bands.

The arrival of point-to-multipoint in these bands transformed the business case and made it financially viable for services providers to deploy solutions. With 5G focusing the industry’s attention on using mmWave spectrum bands for super high-speed, high-bandwidth applications, today’s launch is the next step on CBNL’s evolutionary path to 5G fixed wireless services.
