Infobip, the mobile communications platform provider, has announced the adoption of its sGate SMS firewall by Banglalink, one of the leading service providers in Bangladesh, to increase control and visibility of SMS traffic on the network and allow for a more secure and profitable messaging ecosystem.

sGate works as a “gatekeeper” to an operator’s network, monitoring and filtering SMS, USSD, and HLR, and detecting abnormal traffic flows indicating fraudulent activity.

Based on automated tracking of SMS source behaviour, content, and format, sGate detects irregularities and allows an operator to tackle threats by blocking or monitoring them more closely. The system will monitor and control both domestic and international inbound SMS traffic across Banglalink’s network.

By giving Banglalink full network visibility, Infobip enables the operator to increase network efficiency by understanding where network congestion issues lie and allowing them to address unbilled A2P SMS traffic.

Through pre-set traffic control polices, sGate creates a controlled ecosystem to ensure traffic conforms to the restrictions of the network and in turn enables the operator to benefit from new revenue and lower costs of SMS service.

Following a full review of the operator’s network, and in conjunction with local partner Wintel, Infobip’s integration and networking teams worked closely with Banglalink to implement the rollout of the platform.

To ensure continued success of the deployment, Infobip has created a dedicated Bangladesh-based support team to allow mobile operators in the region to use the sGate SMS firewall both to minimise SMS fraud and drive new revenue opportunities.

“As one of Bangladesh’s leading digital service providers, Banglalink processes a significant volume of traffic and minimising and managing threats to its network is vital. By using sGate we will not only allow Banglalink to significantly reduce SMS threats on its network, but provide insight into SMS traffic which will in turn allow the network to become more streamlined and profitable,” said Silvio Kutic, Founder and CEO at Infobip.

“To ensure we deliver the best possible service to our customers, protecting them from receiving unsolicited SMS spam and preventing potential unlawful communications, we needed a solution capable of handling high volumes of domestic and international traffic that could provide the visibility needed to ensure full security control of incoming messages to our users,” said Nasar Yousuf, B2B Business Director at Banglalink. “Based on its industry experience and credentials, we have chosen Infobip’s sGate solution as a means of safeguarding one of the most important aspects of our business.”
