Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”), India’s largest telecommunications service provider, has said that it will continue to make significant investments to further expand its operations and network footprint across Tamil Nadu.
As part of its ongoing network transformation program - Project Leap, Airtel plans to roll out 12,000 new mobile sites across Tamil Nadu in FY 2018-19 to add large network capacity and take high speed data services deeper into rural areas. This effectively translates to 32 new Airtel mobile sites going LIVE every day across the state.
With this planned rollout, the number of Airtel’s mobile sites across Tamil Nadu will go up by 30% to 52,000 and add to the network experience for customers. Airtel also plans to rollout 3,000 kms of fresh optic fiber across the state to take its fiber footprint to 17,000 kms. The addition of fresh fiber capacity will support the growth of high speed data services in the state.
Manoj Murali, CEO - Tamil Nadu & Kerala said, “As part of Project Leap, our network transformation initiative, we will continue to channel investments towards building a world class future ready network that touches every citizen of the state. These investments underline our strong commitment to Tamil Nadu and will contribute to the Government’s vision of building a digitally enabled state.”
Airtel continues to be the #1 mobile operator in Tamil Nadu and is trusted by over 23 million customers. Airtel has been consistently rated as the fastest mobile network in India. It was the first operator to launch 4G services in Tamil Nadu and its high speed mobile broadband network umbrella covers all key urban, semi urban and rural areas including highways, tourist destinations and trade centers.
