The new project will cross the Atlantic Ocean linking Cape Town to New Jersey through Brazil

SAEx International Ltd, a Mauritian company with its principal office in Mauritius, announces its plans to expand its reach to the US East Coast through Sparkle’s Pan-American network, in line with SAEx business model based on cooperation with other operators.

The initial phase of the SAEx project provides for crossing the Atlantic Ocean by linking the South Atlantic section of the SAEx cable from Cape Town to Brazil and then reaching the US East Coast with landing in New Jersey, USA.

To accomplish this ambitious project, SAEx has established a strong relationship with Sparkle, the International Services arm of TIM Group and among the top ten global operators, to provide connectivity from Brazil up to USA on a fully operational fiber system. Under the terms of the agreement, Sparkle will also provide interconnection facilities in Brazil as well as technical and sales support in Brazil and North America.

This project marks a further step towards SAEx commitment to grow both west and east from South Africa into a truly global system spanning two oceans and four continents, while confirming Sparkle’s leading role in the area and its ability to provide low latency connectivity solutions and end-to-end support.

Sparkle is TIM Group’s fully owned Global Operator and among the top #10 international service providers worldwide, with a proprietary backbone of around 530,000 km of fiber spanning from Europe to Africa, the Americas and Asia.

Leveraging its global IP, Data, Cloud, Data Center, Mobile Data and Voice Platforms, Sparkle offers a full range of ICT solutions to Internet Service Providers, OTTs, Media and Content Players, Application Service Providers, Fixed and Mobile operators as well as Multinational Enterprises. Its sales force is active worldwide and distributed over 36 countries.

The South Atlantic Express (SAEx) project is South African sponsored, and is a planned all-wet East-West submarine fibre optic system connecting Asia and the Americas, via South Africa. It will satisfy a number of crucial objectives, including providing strategic diversity for global customers seeking to avoid to the extent possible, narrow straits and difficult transits through potentially unstable areas or unreliable overland routes.

South Africa is uniquely positioned at the confluence of two oceans and two hemispheres, enabling the SAEx system to maximize this positioning by offering a highly valuable and differentiated service, enabling it to capture as significant a portion of East-West data traffic as practicable.
