Network Transformation: Telenor India modernizes 2000 network sites in AP & Telangana

Telenor India has achieved the milestone of modernizing 2000 sites in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana circle.

This is part of the modernization programme that Telenor had embarked upon in 2015 to swap its entire 3350 sites with state-of-the-art equipment to deliver high speed internet and enhanced voice experience to its customers in the circle.

Speaking on the occasion, Shrinath Kotian, Circle Business Head-AP&TS, Telenor India, said, “We are delighted to achieve this milestone and committed to extend benefits of affordable mobile connectivity. This is a step towards becoming a preferred partner in the digital journey of our mass market customers. We are becoming future ready and this project will enable us to launch relevant services on any technology by ensuring that we make life full paisa vasool for our customers.”

A better network will enhance experience of the customers while efficiencies will help Telenor to become an affordable voice and Internet services operator. The modernized sites have deployed Lean GSM solution that improves the network capacity by nearly 25% using the same spectrum resources and provides superior voice and data experience.

At the sites which have been migrated to new technology, Telenor has reduced congestion and increased data throughput resulting in improved network experience for its customers. In addition, the new equipment is environment friendly as it consumes up to 30% less power.

Telenor India has also crossed the milestone of successfully swapping 7000 sites in all its six operational circles. This is the fastest upgrade on a live network in the telecom industry with over 50 sites being swapped in a day. Telenor is now getting ready to deliver high speed Internet to its customers in its six operational circles. The company aims to complete the swap of its remaining sites by Q1 of 2017.
