Deutsche Telekom’s network transformation is now running at full speed. Around 50 cities all over Germany are now benefiting from the upgrade.
A total of around 4.25 million homes in these cities are now enjoying speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s for downloads and 40 Mbit/s for uploads. “Another 1.75 million households will follow by February 2018. This is part of our contribution to the nationwide rollout of digital infrastructure,” says Timotheus Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom. “While others talk about the lines of the future, we’re building them in the present. We’re responding to the demand for increased bandwidth – now.” And this month in particular, customers in Berlin, Munich and Stuttgart will be benefiting.
“We achieved the increased bandwidth thanks to what we refer to as the IP migration as well as the use of vectoring technology,” explains Walter Goldenits, Chief Technology Officer at Telekom Deutschland. These lines now provide upload speeds of up to 40 Mbit/s. “Uploading speeds are becoming increasingly important for customers, because we are now using the Internet actively, exchanging text, video, and audio data with each other – both for business and privately. An it’s there that our lines use their strengths to the full.”
“We’re building a fast Internet for the masses, instead of reserving top speeds for the few,” says Goldenits. In other words, Deutsche Telekom is taking another great step towards its goal of providing a minimum of 50 Mbit/s to around 80 percent of German households as soon as possible.
And in addition to this offer of faster Internet connections in the wake of the IP migration, the rollout of the fiber-optic network continues: either financed by Deutsche Telekom itself, funded publicly or covering business parks and newly developed areas. On top of that, the modernization and build-out of the Telekom mobile network, which is already 5G-ready today, is being pushed ahead.
The following cities are all benefiting from the new speeds: Aachen, Berlin, Bielefeld, Böblingen, Bochum, Bonn, Braunschweig, Bremen, Darmstadt, Dortmund, Dresden, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Erfurt, Essen, Frankfurt/Main, Freiburg, Friedrichshafen, Hagen, Hamburg, Hanover, Heilbronn, Karlsruhe, Kassel, Kiel, Cologne, Krefeld, Leipzig, Ludwigshafen, Lübeck, Magdeburg, Mainz, Mannheim, Mönchengladbach, Munich, Neuss, Nuremberg, Oberhausen, Oldenburg, Potsdam, Regensburg, Rostock, Saarbrücken, Solingen, Stuttgart, Ulm, Wiesbaden, Wuppertal, Würzburg.
