Chunghwa Telecom Cooperates with Taiwan Industry to Participate in NGMN IC&E 2018

Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd said the TW5G Alliance—CHT Pilot Team, organized by Chunghwa Telecom under the supervision of the 5G Office of Taiwan Government, is led by Kuo-Feng Lin, SEVP and CTO of Chunghwa Telecom, to attend the “NGMN 2018 IC&E,” the Industry Conference & Exhibition held by Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) in Vancouver, Canada, from November 6th to 8th.

Chunghwa Telecom and its major partners from the Pilot Team, including Advantech, Jorjin, Sercomm, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Institute for Information Industry (III), jointly demonstrated leading-edge technologies like live 360° camera and real-time video stitching technology, Augmented-Reality/Mixed-Reality (AR/MR) Smart Glasses, Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), 4K/8K/Edge-AI High Efficiency Video Coding/Advanced Video Coding (HEVC/AVC), Macro Cell/Small Cell Heterogeneous networks and IoT Smart Platform under the theme of “4K/8K Live Concert” to showcase their comprehensive 5G capabilities in Taiwan. With these achievements, the Pilot Team successfully bridge the gap with global telecom operators to promote cooperation between Taiwan industry and global telecom operators and accelerate the development of Taiwan’s 5G industry. SEVP and CTO of Chunghwa Telecom, Kuo-Feng Lin said, “The significance of Chunghwa Telecom’s participation in NGMN is to leverage the major global telecom operators to jointly develop 5G specifications and to explore the demand for 5G application. By participating in the NGMN exhibition, we can promote Taiwan’s industry to leverage existing hardware manufacturing advantages and integrate ICT soft power to develop innovative applications and enhance software, content and innovation capabilities. In addition, Taiwan’s ICT industry can deploy 5G business plans early and play an important role in the global 5G ecosystem.”

Chunghwa Telecom showcased its “5G Intelligent A+” and “IoT Smart Platform” solutions in the NGMN exhibition. “5G Intelligent A+” adopts MEC and SDN technologies not only to furnish enterprise with benefits of data local breakout, be flexible for management of network accessibility, bandwidth, and services, but also to list or un-list service packages on the platform easily. The applications are widespread and innovative, comprising facial AI recognition, mobile SNG, AR remote collaboration and enterprise on-demand service. “IoT Smart Platform” conforms to the industry standard interface of the international OCF and domestic appliance TaiSEIA 101. It adopts open protocols and application service API to provide an IoT service development and operation environment that is convenient, fast, secure and flexible.
